African Pompano

Panama sport fishing & Black Marlin fishing

African Pompano are beautiful to behold. Skin like no other, so bright and silvery. The males have long tendrils  trailing off their dorsal fin.  From up in the tuna tower, you can easily spot African Pompano  swimming over sandy bottom. They can’t pass up a strip bait made from bonito skin skipping off the outrigger.

Once an unusual catch here. Today African Pompano are quite common.

African Pompano look as though they would taste like heaven.  Better to toss it back in.

When you are catching African Pompano, also expect to catch Golden Trevally, Bluefin Trevally, Jack Crevalle, Horse Eye Jacks, Houndfish and Barred Snappers. But we are actually after Roosterfish. You can’t say what’s going to bite next when working near shore. Even Tarpon sometimes!
