Mullet Snapper

MULLET SNAPPER

Mullet Snapper are a likely catch if you drop down cut bait over parts of Hannibal Bank. Also on topwater plugs when drifting over significant rocks in 100 foot depths. Another delicious snapper to eat, Mullet Snapper have a fairly wide bloodline meat to cut out of it’s white fillets. Mullet Snapper Heads make excellent soup. These once existed in massive schools over many spots. Not what they used to be, yet they are more plentiful and bigger here than you will find anywhere else.

Plentiful, large schools containing hundreds of mullet snapper circle over many deep water rocks off the islands and over the Hannibal Bank. Good chance of hooking one on a top-water plug when cast while we are drift fishing big live bait for Cubera snapper. Common catch with chunk bait and smaller live baits.

The Mullet Snapper is distinguished by its light and dark stripes on its sides. They are usually dark grayish-green to a reddish color and have a silver belly. However, the mullet snapper found deeper in the sea appear to be more reddish than those above the surface.  These inshore fish are normally found near offshore islands in the Pacific off of countries from Mexico to Panama.
